SOAR Player Ratings

What Is A Player Rating?

A Pickleball Player Rating is a numerical representation of a player’s skill level and performance on the court. These ratings provide an objective measure of a player’s ability, allowing for fair and competitive matchups regardless of age, gender, or experience level.

Player Ratings at Pickleball Charlotte allow players with similar skills to play together and are used for many different events including Open Play, Tournaments, Group Play, and more. Although many of our Open Play Sessions and Other Programs require a Player Rating, there are other Open Play Sessions and Clinics, Lessons, etc that do not require a specific Player Rating.

When Pickleball Charlotte started in 2019, there were no reliable Player Rating options available. Realizing the value and need to be able to have players be grouped together by some type of playing level, our Pickleball Pros and Directors created our own “PC Player Rating System” using a series of Skills Checklists and Personal Observations as a means to assign each player a Player Rating. We have observed and assigned a Player Rating to over 8,000 players and over 20,000 if you count players getting re-rated.

The industry standard Player Rating system is called DUPR. DUPR is designed to provide accurate and dynamic player ratings by using algorithms that continuously adjust based on match results, ensuring that ratings reflect current skill levels. DUPR’s dynamic rating system unifies Pickleball across age, gender, and location by analyzing match results to accurately evaluate all players across a 2.000 – 8.000 scale. You can easily download the DUPR APP and have a Player Rating after entering just a few scores.

Starting in 2024, Pickleball Charlotte became a DUPR Club and began experimenting with accepting DUPR Player Ratings OR Pickleball Charlotte (PC) Player Ratings for many of our Events and Programs. Your DUPR Player Rating will not always be a one-for-one exact match to your PC Player Rating, but Pickleball Charlotte does compare DUPR Player Ratings with our PC Player Ratings each month and updates our customer’s Player Ratings in CourtReserve system if warranted.

SOAR Player Rating

SOAR – (Skills & Observation Assessment Rating)

SOAR is a Player Rating System designed for Pickleball Clubs to rate their local players to provide more accurate player ratings for your specific club’s programs, events, training, open plays, tournaments, etc.

The SOAR System is used by many Pickleball Clubs, often in addition to or instead of DUPR. DUPR is based on SCORES and RESULTS that have to be entered and the DUPR Rating cannot be edited or controlled by the local Pickleball Club. The SOAR System is based on specific SKILLS and OBSERVATIONS from a Pickleball Professional and can be edited specifically for your local club and shared with other approved clubs.

The SOAR Player Rating System was developed by Pickleball Charlotte and many Pickleball Certified Instructors over the past 6 years. To date, over 12,000 players have been personally OBSERVED and assigned a SOAR Player Rating. Many approved Pickleball Locations have been allowed access to to these player’s SOAR Player Rating to be used when players travel to their clubs.

Approved Pickleball Locations can add the SOAR Player Rating System to their program and training offerings to provide another option for more accurate local player ratings AND also provide an additional Revenue Source for your club. Some clubs have reported over $100,000 of new revenue for a program that not only provides a value to the Player and the Events and Programs, but also a huge financial value to the Pickleball Club. Pickleball Clubs without their own pros and in-house instructors can upload video footage to have a certified SOAR rater review each player and provide a SOAR Player Rating and Feedback on why the specific rating was assigned.

If you would like to learn more about the SOAR Player Rating System for your local Pickleball Club, please register your name to the SOAR INFORMATION event and one of our SOAR specialists will contact you with more information.

How Do I Get RERATED?

There are THREE ways to get RERATED.

  1. You can register for a PC Player Rating REVIEW online that is equal to your CURRENT PC Player Rating. (Most Popular Option.)
  2. You can create a Free DUPR account and start entering your own scores. We review DUPR scores each month and update CourtReserve.
  3. You can attend one of our standard Clinics, Lessons or Instructional Leagues. (Note: Not all Training Sessions are designed to be able to always evaluate your “Player Rating”.) We encourage customers to attend a Player Rating REVIEW if their main goal is to be evaluated for a new Player Rating and receive specific feedback from our Pickleball Charlotte Instructors.

Pickleball Charlotte Player Rating REVIEWS
Players who have a CURRENT Pickleball Charlotte Player Rating, and want to be “ReRated”, can register for a Pickleball Charlotte Player Rating REVIEW on CourtReserve and register for the session that matches your current Player Rating. These Player Rating Evaluation sessions are for any PC Player Rating Level from 1.5 – 3.75* and are usually 2 hours long and are scheduled multiple times each month at all Pickleball Charlotte locations. Our Pickleball Charlotte Instructors will be on hand to provide verbal feedback during the session and additional feedback can be requested via email if needed. The sessions will include a warm up and welcome, followed by competitive games with other players wanting to be re-evaluated and are the same or similar playing level. Scores for the certain levels of players will be recorded into DUPR. Once the session concludes, you can check your CourtReserve customer profile to view your updated Pickleball Charlotte Player Rating. If your Player Rating in CourtReserve is the same, that means our instructors determined your Player Rating Level has not changed.

*Pickleball Charlotte’s Player Rating Levels include 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 2.75, 3.0, 3.25, 3.5, 3.75 and 4.0. See the Player Rating Descriptions below for an explanation of each level. Our Programs and Events use these ratings. Once players receive a 4.0 status with Pickleball Charlotte, they would typically use the DUPR rating system to achieve higher rating levels for tournaments and events outside of Pickleball Charlotte.
