Player Ratings

What Is A Player Rating?

A Pickleball Player Rating is a numerical representation of a player’s skill level and performance on the court. These ratings provide an objective measure of a player’s ability, allowing for fair and competitive matchups regardless of age, gender, or experience level.

Player Ratings at Pickleball Charlotte allow players with similar skills to play together and are used for many different events including Open Play, Tournaments, Group Play, and more. Although many of our Open Play Sessions and Other Programs require a Player Rating, there are other Open Play Sessions and Clinics, Lessons, etc that do not require a specific Player Rating.

The industry standard Player Rating system is called DUPR. DUPR is designed to provide accurate and dynamic player ratings by using algorithms that continuously adjust based on match results, ensuring that ratings reflect current skill levels. DUPR’s dynamic rating system unifies Pickleball across age, gender, and location by analyzing match results to accurately evaluate all players across a 2.000 – 8.000 scale. You can easily download the DUPR APP and have a Player Rating after entering just a few scores.

When Pickleball Charlotte started in 2019, there were no reliable Player Rating options available. Realizing the value and need to be able to have players be grouped together by some type of playing level, our Pickleball Pros and Directors created our own “PC Player Rating System” using a series of Skills Checklists and Personal Observations as a means to assign each player a Player Rating. We have observed and assigned a Player Rating to over 8,000 players and over 20,000 if you count players getting re-rated.

Starting in 2024, Pickleball Charlotte became a DUPR Club and began experimenting with accepting DUPR Player Ratings OR Pickleball Charlotte (PC) Player Ratings for many of our Events and Programs. We were very guarded on the accuracy and reliability of the DUPR system, but after comparing thousands of our player’s PC Ratings to their DUPR Player Rating and learning more of how DUPR works, we are comfortable moving toward DUPR as being our primary Player Rating System for Pickleball Charlotte.

All of Pickleball Charlotte’s Events & Programs, for Player Rating Levels of 3.0 or higher, now accept your PC Player Rating OR your DUPR Player Rating. Your DUPR Player Rating will not always be a one-for-one exact match to your PC Player Rating, but each Event and Program will list and accept the appropriate Player Ratings for both systems. Pickleball Charlotte will continue to track and compare PC Player Ratings with DUPR Player Ratings. As more of our customers create their DUPR accounts and input their scores, we anticipate that the two rating systems will increasingly more align over time.

As of December 2024 here are the breakdowns of how the PC Player Ratings compare to the DUPR Player Ratings for Programs and Events at Pickleball Charlotte.

PC 4.0+ = DUPR 4.25+
PC 3.75 = DUPR 4.0 – 4.24
PC 3.5 = DUPR 3.75 – 3.99
PC 3.25 = DUPR 3.5 – 3.74
PC 3.0 = DUPR 3.25 – 3.49

Create a Free DUPR account and start entering your scores. It is that simple! The more times you play and the more scores you enter, the more accurate your DUPR Player Rating will be. Since Pickleball Charlotte is a DUPR Club, if you are playing at any of our 4 Pickleball Charlotte locations, we will be glad to enter your scores for you and your group. Just pickup a scorecard at the front counter and fill it out with your game results and turn it in. If you are playing in a sanctioned tournament, your scores will automatically be entered into the DUPR system. Pickleball Charlotte staff are also available during many Open Play Sessions and Court Rentals to help educate and encourage all players to track and enter scores in DUPR. Players can easily link their DUPR Account to their Pickleball Charlotte CourtReserve Account to be able to utilize both rating systems.
